Friday at the Sphinx

Yep, there it is, really quite incredible.  It wasn't even discovered until modern times, when the top of its head was all that stuck out in the sand.

And, no, his nose was not shot off by Napoleon's army, but was chiseled off between the 11th and 15th century by bandits.  Also, its long departed beard is held at the British Museum in London.

Finally, here is a picture of Gloria with our guide, Hannan.  Very knowledgeable and friendly.  Although she didn't bring up President Bush, she did discuss the slowdown in world economy and how it was negatively affecting tourism in Egypt.  She has two daughters, one is three and a half, the other is 3 months old. She daycare's them at a neighbors when she works, which isn't much.  No mention of a husband.

We leave for the overnight train shortly.
