robert_crawford[1]

Thank you for checking out this blog on Dr. Crawford's solo sail to Hawaii.  We will be receiving updates as Robert sails the 2008 Singlehanded Sailing Society's TransPac which begins Saturday, July 12, 2008 from the Corinthian Yacht Club, 43 Main Street, Tiburon, CA.

The plan is for Robert to check in with his wife Jeanne via SAT phone twice daily at 8:30 a.m. PDT and 8:30 p.m. PDT. He has to check in at least once daily to avoid time penalties with the race committee...and having a frazzled wife. BUT due to circumstances we cannot control, not necessarily hazardous to his well-being, he may not be able to phone in every time. Please be patient as the sea is in control.

The START of the race... The first gun is scheduled for 12 noon at the Corinthian... we have no further information at this time, but guesstimates tell us the starts will be at 12:05 p.m. and 12:10 p.m....and the boats will begin to be towed out from the yacht club at about 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.

TransPac starts on July 12 from the Corinthian Yacht Club in San Francisco Bay, and finishes at beautiful Hanalei Bay, Kauai – a tropical paradise in every sense. The chase boat will meet you as you cross the finish line and hand-deliver your beverage of choice while the skippers and families cheer your finish from 'The Tree' on the beach. This is not your ordinary sailboat race. This is the Singlehanded TransPac, done SSS style. Now with 30 years of tradition.
